More than 300,000 houses are lying empty around the country – three times the official estimate, academics have claimed.

The scale of vacant housing – equivalent to half of all homes in Dublin – could be enough to meet demand for years to come.

Prof Kitchin said the scale of available housing should turn the construction industry away from housing and towards infrastructure, particularly where needed in broadband, energy supply, roads and public transport.

Charging ahead with its plan to make electric vehicles for the masses, the Renault-Nissan Alliance and the Irish government today said they’ve teamed up to develop an electric car network with ESB, the Irish electricity provider in which the government holds a partial stake.

Staremo a vedere.
